On May 18th, the 2024 Freshman Orientation for the Master of Engineering Management (MEM) program was held grandly at the Yifu Building of ECNU- Zhongbei Campus. He Jiaxun, Executive Dean of the Shanghai International School of Chief Technology Officer, delivered a speech at the orientation meeting. Assistant Professor Liu Du addressed as a teacher representative, and CTO school's enterprise-mentor Jie Yingping shared the address and presentation. Li Xin, the class monitor of the 2023 CTO Elite Class, and three representatives of the 2024 freshmen shared their personal insights. Finally, the three course coordinators and freshmen got to know each other. They also took the stage one by one to introduce themselves as well as extend warmly welcome and best regards to the students. This meeting is hosted by Zhang Xi, a student from the 2024 Intelligent Innovation Engineering Class. More than a hundred 2024 MEM freshmen gathered together to unveil their journey of CTO growth.
Dean He Jiaxun addressed at the beginning and expressed sincere congratulations and warm welcome to the arrival of the freshmen. He reviewed the more than two years of the history of MEM at East China Normal University, and the contributions and foundations made by the past two cohorts of students to the development of the school with a pioneering and innovative spirit, pushing CTO education to a new stage. Today, more than a hundred students from the 2024 cohort came to East China Normal University, hoping that the new students can demonstrate the pioneering spirit of the 2024 cohort in the new era of artificial intelligence, based on the entrepreneurial spirit of the 2022 cohort and the innovative character of the 2023 cohort, combined with the annual development strategy of "standing in the new AI era and leading science and technology innovation education" of the school. He encourages the students to strive for two changes in their post-graduate studies in the next two and a half years, namely, transforming from a worker to a manager and from a manager to a leader. With the spirit, pattern, and values of the new AI era, under the national strategy of accelerating the development of new quality productive forces, they will make greater contributions to the development of the national economy through enterprise scientific and technological innovation practices and breakthroughs.
Liu Du, Assistant Professor and the Scholar of Mingyuan Chenhui, delivered a speech on "Innovative Management under New Technological Change". She inspired her students to think about why some large companies were overthrown by later small companies, and led to Professor Christensen's book "The Dilemma of Innovators" from Harvard Business School, pointing out that continuous innovation is the reason for the decline of those companies. She cited cases of Microsoft and Haier dealing with the "Innovator's Dilemma" and pointed out that we not only need innovation, but also need to manage innovation. In the process of learning innovation management, three questions need to be considered: Is there a track for innovation management? What are the connections and differences between innovative management and other management? And how to respond to changes and challenges, and innovate to win?
Jie Yingping, enterprise mentor at CTO School and founder & CEO of Shanghai Hanzhong Technology Co., Ltd., delivered a speech titled "Career Planning and Learning Practice for Future Chief Technology Officers.". In terms of career planning and development, he starts from his own experience and encourages his students to focus on their goals and find their life mission by doing things they are good at, love, and meet the needs of society. Subsequently, focusing on learning and practice, he pointed out that, AI is the biggest variable of the future and the most advanced productivity. It is time to keep up with the new ages and embrace AI. In addition, he stated that the essence of new quality productive forces requires technological innovation, and enterprises are the main body of national innovation, CTO is a key talent for enterprise innovation. In the process of learning CTO, it is necessary to strengthen the learning of technology, management, general education, and leadership cultivation.
Li Xin, 2023 CTO Elite Class Leader and the Minister of MEM Student Union Outdoor Club, shared the topic of "Thinking about Upholding Dimensions and Moving Forward". He used the Cartesian coordinate system of entrepreneurs to explain how to analyze the underlying logic of the MEM curriculum at East China Normal University from tactical, strategic, pattern, innovation, time, and probability dimensions, as well as the improvements it brings to oneself. After "dimension upgrading thinking", it is necessary to "reduce dimension execution", that is, to decompose and sink into each single dimension (variable), and do a good job in "small details". Finally, he shared his experiences of participating in various competitions and activities in the college and class, depicting a colorful picture of his future graduate studies for his younger students.
Kuai Pu, a 2024 CTO senior class student and the person in charge of software development and delivery for the digital experience platform of Zero Beam Technology Co., Ltd., said that in a variable industry, choosing East China Normal University and MEM is to break free from conservative concepts, learn innovative thinking and technological concepts, broaden horizons, re-examine oneself from different dimensions, and enhance values and outlook on life in this school.
Jin Zhenkai, a 2024 CTO Elite Class student and frontend developer at PwC Zhongtian Certified Public Accountants, stated that he lacks management skills and hopes to achieve a collaborative development of "technology+management" in his future graduate studies. He actively seeks knowledge from teachers and classmates and applies it to his work.
Li Rongqian, a student of the 2024 Intelligent Innovation Engineering Class and a big data technology expert at Xiaohongshu, shared the changes that the application of artificial intelligence has brought to his work, and expressed that as a member of the Intelligent Innovation Engineering Class, he hopes to truly practice the concept of "standing in the new AI era" proposed by the school.
Chen Wenting, the course coordinator of the 2024 CTO Elite Class, said that the school provides many opportunities for everyone to broaden their horizons, such as international exchanges and corporate visits. She hopes that everyone can actively participate, and as a coordinator, she will continue to provide support and assistance to every student.
Cai Qi, the course coordinator of the 2024 Intelligent Innovation Engineering Class, stated that as the coordinator and Alumni Association Liaison, he will maintain a lifelong companionship with everyone and look forward to embarking on a wonderful learning journey with all her students in the future.
