On July 29th, The Second Module of MEM (2023) Freshman Team Building & Outward-Bound Trainingwas successfully carried out on Changxing Island, Chongming District. This activity, as the second module of the innovation leadership freshman Outward-Bound Training in the freshman Orientation series activities, covers various mental and physical challenges, and tests of individual ability and team cooperation. Following the first module of the trip to Suzhou, it continues the underlying logic of innovation and the spirit of persistence. Coincidentally, Typhoon Dussuri struck fiercely, but the enthusiasm of the students was never extinguished, and they embarked on this journey of braving the wind and waves.
All freshmen from the 2023 CTO Advanced Class, Elite Class 1, Elite Class 2, and Elite Class 3, as well as new students from the 2024 Summer Camp, gathered on Changxing Island to warm up and start the event. One of the key points of 'innovation' lies in 'breaking'. Although we have found like-minded partners through the previous freshman activities, this time we will reorganize 8 groups, re-elect team leaders, and develop new flags and slogans. Overthrow the past, break the rules, and start anew!
The first activity is'Speed and Passion'. Each group needs to complete three challenges in a limited amount of time: drumming, kicking shuttlecock, drilling rope, and finally forming a circle to perform specific relay movements, and shouting team slogans according to the rules. Students in the same group worked together according to their strengths in the project, and worked together to gradually explore the path in a tense and stimulating atmosphere, cultivating a tacit understanding. Especially in drumming and bouncing the ball, there is a high demand for teamwork and physical coordination. Through repeated failures, everyone perseveres in trying and ultimately discovers the joy and skills involved.
The typhoon weather cannot stop the enthusiasm gathered by the students from all over the world, from unfamiliarity to familiarity, from formality to tacit understanding. Through the training of brain and physical strength, students have gained a deeper understanding of innovation and innovative leadership. Now, let's listen to the voices of our classmates together!
In today's activity, I have three insights: firstly, the main focus is on changing and improving the way of thinking; Secondly, in the face of complex situations, how to make calm and accurate judgments, with minimal effort and maximum return, and lead the team to strive for the greatest benefits; Thirdly, based on the characteristics of each individual, a reasonable division of labor should be carried out to maximize the team's energy.
Liu Yuefeng, CTO Elite Class 2 Student
Diligence without thinking is laziness, persistence without cooperation is showing off. Bread and dreams are never a black or white relationship, there are opportunities and processes between the two. The spirit of sharing and contract enables zero sum games to become mutually beneficial and win-win. Self reflection and external investigation may make inspiration luck a habitual pattern. Although it is a rainy day, the Crazy Market activity has a noticeable effect on the career development of enterprises and individuals.
Wu Xiaoyu, CTO Advanced Class Student
Thank you to the college for organizing the second such unique expansion activity. The logic of this expansion has become increasingly applicable to the professional characteristics of our MEM, and has also attracted a large number of students who are interested in CTO College to participate enthusiastically, including students who have come from afar. The speed and passion in the morning tested the team's technical level and collaborative ability. The most difficult pinball on the drum challenges the team's skills, cooperation, mentality, and luck, and these should also be the survival rules that future CTOs should pay attention to.
The "Crazy Market" in the afternoon is really crazy! The test is for everyone to simulate the operation of 8 group companies (16 branches), and explore how enterprises can establish organizational structure and functional division in the market. By buying tickets, conducting projects, borrowing loans, promoting production, venture capital, information gap, and other methods, enterprises can promote their business development and ultimately make profits. From the initial lack of understanding of market rules by most people to a clear division of labor, striving to do their job well, fully utilizing market changes to adapt to local conditions, sharing information, and ultimately enabling enterprises to make profits, everyone enjoys it and learns from it in their hearts. Although the eight groups are all in a competitive relationship, competing together for the first, second, and third places, resulting in huge profits, after consulting with teachers, I gained a different result: why not let the eight groups share the final results? Let's set market rules together and expand the market together! The teacher's advice has inspired me the most.
Qu Pengfei, CTO Elite Class 3 Student
The upcoming "Crazy Market" is even more exciting. This is a team competition, where each team transforms into a company and simulates doing business in a freely competitive market, with the company with the highest ultimate profit as the winning team. Students combine their strengths to hold positions such as CEO, CFO, Marketing Director, Production Director, Project Director, and Outreach Director, brainstorming for the profitability of the company.
During the activity process, some groups actively participated in challenging projects such as Kong Mingsuo, Thousand Paper Cranes, Sudoku, Rubik's Cube, and Jumping Long Rope to maintain a stable cash flow; Some groups unite to earn money through information sharing and win-win cooperation; Some groups engage in opportunism and intentionally release false information to disrupt the order of the market Different groups use different profit methods, and the entire market can be described as exciting and diverse.
