On the morning of September 17th, the opening ceremony of the 2023 Master of Engineering Management (MEM) freshmen from the Shanghai International School of Chief Technology Officer of East China Normal University and the Academic Orientation: 2023 Sci&Tech Innovation Industry Frontier Outstanding Forum were successfully held at Yifu Building, Putuo Campus, East China Normal University. Shi Guoyue, Vice President of East China Normal University, Yang Fuyi, Vice Dean of Graduate School, He Jiaxun, Executive Dean of Shanghai International School of Chief Technology Officer, Xing Hexiang, Executive Dean of Industrial Technology Research Institute, Ye Haifeng, Vice Dean of School of Life Sciences, Li Honglin, Dean of School of Pharmacy (preparatory) and Director of Artificial Intelligence New Pharmaceuticals Innovation Center, as well as 14 degree supervisors , representatives of academic and industry mentors attended the opening ceremony. Vice President Shi Guoyue pointed out in the opening address that the Shanghai International School of Chief Technology Officer (East China Normal University) is one of the practical explorations of the concept of “Transcendence Education” under the strategic deployment of Leading Innovative Education , which is also a positive response to the report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China that education, technology, and talent will be arranged and deployed in a well-coordinated manner. Transcendence means transcending limitations, boundaries, and limits; transcending discrete knowledge points, disciplines, thinking patterns, and systems, while cultivating talents and conducting scientific research with strong principles and maximum flexibility. Vice Dean Yang Fuyi stated in his speech that in 2022, the proportion of professional master's degree students in the total number of postgraduate students at East China Normal University has exceeded 63%. In the future, the university will further increase the proportion of professional master's degree students and make more in-depth explorations in the reform of training models. In the current trend and background of domestic and international development, it is necessary to build a full chain of university- enterprise joint training to solve the gap between theory and practice, and further break the homogenization of talent cultivation. In this regard, CTO School has made good attempts in the past two years of education. Xing Yu'e, the class leader and monitor of the 2022 CTO Elite Class, delivered a speech as a representative of the senior. She shared her learning experience in CTO School over the past year from three aspects: having goals in the heart, having variables in the eyes, and grasping the key points in the hand. She also proposed several suggestions for her “younger siblings” of MEMers to pursue postgraduate studies, such as setting specific and executable goals, and learning to grasp the key points in a life of information overload, actively participating in every class, exchanges and attending activities more. Wang Guoxiang, a freshman from 2023 CTO Advanced Class, shared the topic of Heroic Journey. He reviewed his past entrepreneurial experiences and told everyone about his effective responses and strategies in the complex business formats and rapidly evolving technological background of the VUCA era - extensively studying courses related to cognition and innovation. This is also the reason why he chose to join CTO School for systematic learning. He looks forward to building an open learning environment with his classmates and professors in the future, and drawing rich nutrients from mutual communication, enhancing personal thinking and patterns, and rewarding the world.
Gao Peng, a freshman from 2023 CTO Elite Class 1, spent four years of his undergraduate studies at East China Normal University. Ten years later, he returned to his alma mater as a master's student in engineering management and pursued further education on his own. The new world pattern has also put new demands on talents. In his opening address, Dean He Jiaxun would like to express his gratitude to the university leader teams, the council, and all sectors of society for their care and support for the development of CTO School. He briefly described the development and innovation of Academician Qian Xuhong's establishment of the school, and proposed three thoughts on the cultivation of Chief Technology Officer (CTO) talents from the perspective of standing at thirty.
