The first module lecture

Professor Kong Xiang, Vice Dean of ECNU’s School of Urban and Regional Science, gave a wonderful lecture

The first lecture of the seminar was the theme course of Global Economy and Trade and Sino-US Conflict delivered by Professor Kong Xiang, Vice Dean of ECNU’s School of Urban and Regional Sciences. Professor Kong focused on the following four aspects: Sino-US economic and trade conflict; Theoretical analysis of the evolution mechanism of industrial division under globalization; Reflection on the changes in the global economic and trade pattern; The reflection and enlightenment of attracting investment in the post epidemic era.

In the lecture, Professor Kong guided everyone to think: From the perspective of economic and trade relations, is the Sino-US conflict inevitable? Is it possible for China-US economy and trade to decouple? He analyzed this problem from three aspects of theory, practice, and operation, and gradually promoted it to the core content of this course: In the era of globalization, the development of the international industrial division of labor is an important basis for understanding contemporary global economic and trade relations. From the perspective of the evolution mechanism of the international division of labor, the agglomeration of the processing and manufacturing industry to China is inevitable, and the transformation and upgrading of the processing and manufacturing industry is an internal requirement. Therefore, he believed that the economic and trade conflict between China and the United States was inevitable. The complete decoupling of China-US trade should be a historical process. COVID-19 has had an important impact on economic globalization and the international division of labor and has also made the evolution of economic and trade relations face pressure from external factors, which has had a complex impact on the global economic and trade pattern and the Sino-US conflict. He suggested that students could reflect on the optimization path of attracting investment from the new trends of the global division of labor system and economic and trade pattern changes.

Interactions

Students actively asked questions

After listening to Professor Kong's wonderful lecture, Li Xiting, the investment promotion project manager from Lingang Pujiang International Science and Technology City, asked: What impact will the China-US leaders' meeting bring to the domestic economy? What further impact will it have on the investment promotion of Lingang Group?

In this regard, Professor Kong believes that a leaders' meeting between China and the United States is better than not meeting. The two countries should pay attention to ways and means of cooperation in high-tech fields. On investment promotion, he put forward three suggestions: first, the right choice is the best, not necessarily the most advanced one. Second, we should give full play to China's special advantages as a major developing country and create conditions for new products to meet the market needs of different developing countries. This can also reflect the special concern of Porter's national competitive advantage theory on demand factors. Third, pay attention to accurately grasp the connotation of international rules and strive to optimize China's business environment.

So far, this online seminar opening ceremony and the first module lecture have achieved complete success.
